This sonnet is now reflecting more of the feeling after the boy has a child. Shakespeare is telling the boy that if he has a child, it could be used as an excuse as to why he looks so old in the future. If he doesn’t have a kid and he looks old, he wouldn’t have the pride and joy of saying “Well, I passed all my beauty down to my children”. He then goes and explains how having a child is like being born again and having the opportunity to relive that amazing experience of seeing “yourself” as a child. I believe that this sonnet really makes sense. In modern society, it is expected of us to have kids and if you don’t, it is like you are allowing your family chain to diminish. Shakespeare is trying to convince the boy now to start procreating because when he is too old to have kids, he will regret it.
