Sonnet Reflection #1

In Sonnet 1 by Shakespeare, I find the overall message of the poem very meaningful. He is trying to tell this young man that procreating, and continuing his family "chain" is very important because of how good looking he is. Having children would make him an unselfish person, and he would be "contributing to society". Shakespeare is calling him a "greedy pig" because he would be hogging his beauty until the day he died. I believe that he is being extremely bold with these statements and considering the boy is supposedly only a teenager, it isn't fair to be bombarded with all these kinds of demands. If I was the boy, not only would I be offended and embarrassed, but I would find these poems obsessive and creepy. When you are a teenager (in modern times), you don't want to be told what to do or else you will do the exact opposite. So, I feel sympathetic for the boy and I believe that it is too strong of a message for someone of that age.
