In Sonnet 12, it doesn’t give the direct message of telling the boy to try and have children. It is more indirect and he explains what happens to things when they age. One of the lines explains how since he has to experience time just like everything else, then he won’t be beautiful forever. The only way to defeat time is to have beautiful children. I actually disagree with this sonnet. I believe that enjoying time on this Earth should be filled with accomplishing things that you want to do. Having children doesn’t define you as a person and unfortunately, that’s what Shakespeare thinks. He is dead set on this boy having children because of how attractive he is, but he is only a kid. Maybe he doesn’t want to be tied down to a child, or what if he isn’t afraid of aging? I don’t understand why he finds it so important if one boy decides not to continue his family chain.
